The Lincoln/Kennedy Connection

The Connection

The Presidents

Abraham Lincoln was elected into Congress in 1846. Kennedy was elected in 1946.

President Lincoln was elected in the year 1860 and Kennedy in 1860, one century apart.

They were inaugurated in 1861 and 1961, respectively.

Both defeated incumbent vice presidents in the race. Lincoln defeated Vice President John C. Breckenridge and Kennedy defeated Vice President Richard Nixon.

Both presidents were heavily involved in African American civil rights.

Abraham Lincoln was killed inside Ford’s Theater, while John F. Kennedy was assassinated while riding in a Lincoln convertible produced by the Ford Motor Company.

Both men were killed by a shot to the back of the head in the presence of their wives on a Friday.

“LINCOLN” and “KENNEDY” both have seven letters.

Lincoln was warned by staffer Miss Kennedy not to go to the Ford Theater, while Kennedy was warned by staffer Miss Lincoln not to go to Dallas, Texas.

Both were killed by a bullet that entered their head from behind.

Lincoln’s private secretary’s first name was John. Kennedy’s private secretary’s last name was Lincoln.

The Vice Presidents

Vice presidents Andrew Johnson and Lyndon Johnson were born one hundred years apart from each other (December 29th, 1808 and August 27th, 1908, respectively).

Both VPs were southern Democrats and former senators named Johnson.

“ANDREW JOHNSON” and “LYNDON JOHNSON” each feature thirteen letters.

The First Ladies

Mary Todd Lincoln and Jackie Kennedy both lost a child while living at the White House.

The Assassins

According to some sources, John Wilkes Booth was born in 1839. Lee Harvey Oswald was born one hundred years later in 1939.

“JOHN WILKES BOOTH” and “LEE HARVEY OSWALD” each have fifteen letters.

Both assassins go by three names.

Booth shot Lincoln inside of a theater before fleeing to a warehouse. Oswald shot Kennedy from a warehouse and fled to a theater.

Both of the assassins were murdered before they could see justice in a trial.

Both were southerners with extremist views.
