The Lincoln/Kennedy Connection

Presidents Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy have an uncanny number of parallels between their lives – is it possible the two men are somehow connected?

Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy reached major milestones in their political careers a century apart. Lincoln and Kennedy were elected into Congress in 1846 and 1946, respectively. They would be elected in 1860 and 1960, both inagurated in ’61. Their vice presidents, Andrew Johnson (b. December 29, 1808) and Lyndon Johnson (b. August 27, 1908), were born one hundred years apart from each other. They were both southern Democrats bearing the same surname.

President Lincoln and President Kennedy defeated incumbent vice presidents in the race: Vice President John C. Breckenridge and Vice President Richard Nixon. The two presidents were both heavily involved in the civil rights of African Americans.

“Lincoln” and “Kennedy” each contain seven letters. Their vice presidents’ names, “Andrew Johnson” and “Lyndon Johnson” each feature thirteen letters. Assassins “John Wilkes Booth” and “Lee Harvey Oswald” are each fifteen letters long.

First ladies Mary Todd Lincoln and Jackie Kennedy both lost a child while living at the White House.

Lincoln’s private secretary was named John. Kennedy’s private secretary’s last name was Lincoln.

Staffer Miss Kennedy warned Lincoln not to go to the Ford Theater; Kennedy was warned by staffer Miss Lincoln not to go to Dallas, Texas. Lincoln was killed inside Ford’s Theater, while Kennedy was assassinated riding in a Lincoln convertible produced by the Ford Motor Company. Both men were killed by a shot from behind to the back of the head on Friday. They were in the presence of their wives. John Wilkes Booth shot Lincoln inside of a theater before fleeing to a warehouse. Lee Harvey Oswald shot Kennedy from a warehouse and fled to a theater.

According to some sources, John Wilkes Booth was born in 1839. Lee Harvey Oswald was born in 1939. Both assassins went by three names and were southerners with extremist views. Booth and Wilkes were murdered before they could see justice in trial.
