History
Urban Legends
The Bayview Bridge connects between Mulga and Bayview (both located in Alabama). It is haunted by an unidentified woman wearing a wedding dress, though the reason behind her haunting is uncertain, as there are several urban legends surrounding her spirit’s presence. In the most popular version, a soon-to-be-bride had hired a dressmaker to create her wedding dress during the 1940s. Because the young woman did not possess a car, she walked to the dressmaker for her final fitting. On her way home, she was attacked and killed by a pack of wild dogs. Another version suggests the bride ran away from her wedding and was run off the bridge by a car. A similar variant of this version claims the bride was driving with her husband after the wedding and accidentally crashed into a guard rail, killing the pair. The most different version of the story states that the young woman was a mother crossing the Bayview Bridge in her car with her child. A crash with a passing truck sent the pair into the water below, killing the child (some claim both drowned). The young woman eventually passed away and her ghost returned to the bridge in search of her lost child.
Haunting
Drivers who cross the bridge report seeing handprints form on their windshields. In one incident, a brand new car came to a complete halt atop the bridge for no apparent reason. Misty apparitions appeared right before the car started up again.
