History

The  University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington is home to a tale of abduction and murder. During the night of August 31st, 1961, eight-year-old Ann Marie Burr went missing from her bedroom in her house on N. 14th and N. Junett. The front door had been locked, but the next morning it was found to be broken into. On the porch was a small men’s  shoe print.

Only a few blocks away from the Burr house and the University lived Jack Cowell, the great uncle of serial killer Ted Bundy. For a short while, Bundy and his mother lived with Cowell, and Ted continued to visit him even after they moved out. Cowell worked at the University as a professor.

Ted Bundy was only 14 when Ann Marie Burr went missing. However, he denied any part in the young girl’s murder even in his final interview before his execution. The body was never found. Rumor has it that Bundy kidnapped and murdered Ann, then dumped her body into the foundation of a building being constructed on the campus of the school at the time (a new women’s dormitory started construction on August 16th, 1961).

Now, at night in the girl’s dormitory, the sound of shuffling feet in slippers can be heard. Ann Marie’s apparition can be seen in a blue floral nightgown. Interaction with her causes her to disappear.
